Muslims in South Sudan celebrate Eid al-Adha

South Sudan Muslim believers celebrate today the feast of Eid al-Adha across the country. The ceremony in the capital Juba was held in “Al-Zahra” Square, where Muslims believers praised the prayer of Eid and performed prayers.

Leaders of the Muslim community attended the ceremony.

Salah Rajab Bonduoqi, Information Minister of Jubek State, emphasized the importance of unity among the people of South Sudan, especially the Muslim community.

“We have a lot of things in common as South Sudanese, so we need to call for peace.  The government will work for peace and development in our country,” he said.

“You have a mission as the Muslim community. We want to contribute towards peace and stability in South Sudan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Baraj, the Secretary General of the Islamic Council in South Sudan, thanked President Kiir Salva for working hard to make peace in the country.

“We need to put the public interest first before our individual interest,” he said.

Muslims celebrate Eid Adha to reflect on Prophet Abraham’s obedience when he was asked to sacrifice his son.
