The Muslim community in the Western Equatoria State capital, Yambio, gathered in large numbers on Sunday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in a peaceful and joyous atmosphere.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Muhammad Sheikh expressed gratitude to the government for ensuring peace and protection for the Muslim community.

“As Muslims in Yambio, we are happy to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in peace,” he stated. “The government has provided security, and we feel safe.”

For his part, Sheikh Abdallah Omar, a preacher at Yambio Mosque, urged fellow Muslims to pray for continued peace and blessings.

“I wish all Muslims a peaceful Eid al-Fitr,” he said. “Let us ask Allah to bless and protect us all.”

Meanwhile, Yambio County Commissioner Mbiko Barakati, a Muslim, highlighted the importance of faith and devotion in Islam.

“Islam teaches discipline and commitment,” he noted. “Praying five times daily requires sacrifice, leaving behind business and worldly matters to worship Allah.”

Addressing the congregation at Yambio Freedom Square, Acting Governor Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa reassured the Muslim Community of the government’s commitment to security and protection for all citizens, including traders bringing goods into the state.

“The security situation is stable, and we will continue to protect all communities. We have already deployed security forces along the borders of Western Equatoria and Juba to ensure safety,” Badagbu said. “As a government, we will not tolerate criminals. Everyone—Muslims and Christians alike—should work together for the development of our state.”

The Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Yambio were marked by prayers, communal meals, and expressions of gratitude for the prevailing peace in the state.
