Murder suspect arrested in Eastern Lakes State

Police authorities in South Sudan’s Jonglei State said it had on Tuesday arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of a man in Bor town.

Police authorities in South Sudan’s Jonglei State said it had on Tuesday arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of a man in Bor town.

On Saturday, an officer with South Sudan’s People Defense Forces (SSPDF) allegedly opened fire at a brawl scene at Bor’s Referendum neighborhood, killing one man and injured another.

The SSPDF soldier, identified as a bodyguard to an army general in Bor was at large since Saturday night, sparking outrage among the relatives of the deceased.

But speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Jonglei Police Commissioner Yousif Abdalla Garang said the officer, whose name is withheld was arrested in Eastern Lakes State on Tuesday after escaping Bor town.

He pointed out that an investigation into the incident has been launched, adding the suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation finishes.   

Abdalla urged the family of the victim to remain calm as the law takes its course.
