Authorities of the Yei town council have launched a campaign to keep Yei town clean and green. The campaign targets residential areas, markets, streets and public utilities.
The clerk of Yei town council, Alfathi Morgan told Radio Tamazuj the campaign also aims at keeping the environment clean to control the outbreak of diseases.
Alfathi said any person found without a pit latrine, dust bin, utensils and clothes display will face the law.
“We want people to keep Yei town clean. We will not expect someone to come from outside to clean up our place. It’s us to do it and if we discover that your home, office compound, public institutions, streets and shops not clean we will charge you 5,000 SSP and we will keep on until Yei is clean,” he said.
Alfathi further said the council is working with chiefs, youth and women in Yei town.
The official stressed that all shops in the town should be painted white with blue color.
James Mawa, a local resident of Yei, welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to participate in keeping Yei town clean.
