The newly appointed commissioner of Mukaya County in Yei River State has vowed to prioritize the delivery of basic services to citizens at the grassroots level.

The newly appointed commissioner of Mukaya County in Yei River State has vowed to prioritize the delivery of basic services to citizens at the grassroots level.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Commissioner Joy Keji said the locals are suffering due to lack quality education, health services and clean drinking water.

“There are no schools in Mukaya County for the last three years. I am calling on the NGOs to renovate the schools because education is light, life and future of the young generation,” Keji said.

She urged aid agencies operating in the county to support citizens.

The commissioner expressed concerns that the local residents depend on traditional herbs as medication. “The primary healthcare centers are not operational, forcing the people to rely on tree roots for medication and people are suffering in the bush,” she stressed.

Keji, however, said although she is exerting efforts to provide clean drinking water, there is also the need for humanitarian organizations to assist the needy people.

“Because of the war, all the boreholes are no longer operational. I am kindly calling on NGOs like Water is Basic and SSDO to come and do assessments and repair the broken boreholes so that the local population can access clean drinking water,” she added.

Mukaya County is one of the areas badly affected by the 2016 crisis.
