The MTN network that went down for more than one year due to insecurity resumed functioning recently in Yei River State.
A technician, on condition of anonymity, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday last week that the mobile network was operational in Yei.
The technician called on the government of Yei River State to restore peace in the rural areas so that the MTN network can cover those areas.
“Before the crisis, MTN embarked and invested a lot of resources on installation and construction of infrastructure in the counties but because of the war, most of our equipment have been looted and destroyed,” he said.
Magreth Akandu, a local resident in Yei, welcomed the resumption of MTN services in the state. Akandu urged the management and the marketing organs of the company to embark on customer care management.
“I am so happy with MTN because we are connected to the MTN network and we hope that they will reduce their tariffs because being on a single network is over charging because of its monopoly pride. I am just happy because I am able to communicate to my family members in Juba,” Akandu said.
There are now two functional mobile networks in Yei (vivacell and MTN) while Zain and Gemtel mobile networks remain off-air.
