MTN South Sudan has launched an open-market smartphone bundling service to expand access by offering new subscribers 1 GB of data monthly for six months.
Speaking during the launch on Thursday afternoon, the company’s CEO, Monzer Ali, described the move as a remarkable step forward for South Sudan in enhancing affordable internet access.
“With this initiative, we are redefining mobile accessibility in South Sudan. We are empowering customers, enhancing connectivity, and driving economic development. We are empowering customers by giving them the freedom to use any smartphone from any network on MTN South Sudan,” he said.
“All they need to do is insert the MTN SIM card into their smartphone, and automatically, the MTN network will provide them with 1 GB of data every month for the next six months. In this way, we are liberalizing data access for anyone with a smartphone on MTN South Sudan,” he added.
Ali further expressed MTN South Sudan’s commitment to accelerating digital inclusion and bridging the digital divide in the country.
“Providing free data to anyone without any conditions is accelerating digital inclusion and bridging the digital divide in South Sudan. I firmly believe this is a significant boost for the ICT sector in the country. By enabling access to data and the digital world, we are giving our customers opportunities to seek employment, pursue education, and engage in e-commerce. Additionally, this initiative will contribute to the economy on a larger scale. MTN South Sudan envisions a future where every South Sudanese has the right to access cutting-edge technology,” Ali added.
The Secretary-General of the National Chamber of Commerce, Kur Nyok Deng, applauded MTN South Sudan for the initiative, stating that MTN has empowered millions of South Sudanese through its affordable services.
Deng encouraged MTN South Sudan to continue building a resilient digital ecosystem in the country to create more opportunities for young people and transform the economy.
“Let us remember, this is more than a commercial milestone; it is a strategic investment in South Sudan’s future—a future where technology empowers education, entrepreneurship, and national unity. Let this be the first of many collaborations to build digital resilience in South Sudan,” Deng said.
