MTN telecommunication company customers in Abyei are connected once again after more than a month without signal. The company’s engineers were seen in the area last week before managing to restore network services to their clients.
It was not clear why the network was down in July. Some users said they were happy with the restoration because they were at last able to know about their far relatives, while owners of network-related businesses praised the company saying their trade would flourish now.
“We are optimistic now after getting signal. It has solved many issues and connected us with our families and pushed businesses. Before I had to travel to Abyei town to use MTN-Sudan to talk with relatives, for business we were forced to write letter messages,” said Habeeb Abu Zait, a Darfuri trader in Aniet market.
On the other hand, some customors asked the company to explain why it didn’t notify them when services had technical problems.
“We had many difficulties as well as our clients, if MTN had a customer care center, it would have received a lot of complaints,” said Jacob Mijok, employee at Jiing Money Transfer Company in Aniet market. Abyei This Week contacted MTN for comment but failed to get a response.
