The Commissioner of Lainya County in Yei River State announced that the MTN network that went down for three years resumed functioning last week in the area.
This follows citizens’ complaints over the lack of telecommunications services in the area.
Commissioner Stephen Degol Steward told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the network went off-air three years ago due to conflict but it has now resumed its services.
Degol said the mobile network operator has repaired four network towers in Mile 55, Lainya Center, Loka and Limbe areas. “The good news is that, Lainya is now connected to all parts of South Sudan and the world through the MTN network. Parts of Wunduruba and Kupera are also connected and people are now happy with the mobile network service,” he said.
The local official urged the people of his county to use the MTN network to disseminate peace messages. “I would like to urge the public to use the mobile services in helping to bring peace and reconciliation among communities,” he said.
Degol thanked the management of the MTN South Sudan for responding to their calls, saying the local government will protect to the towers.
