Telecommunications operator, MTN, has installed its first network in Aweil Center County’s Awada Payam in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, an official at the state information ministry confirmed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, the Acting Minister of Information, Communication and Postal Services in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Abuor Gordon Nhial, confirmed that the state governor Tong Akeen Ngor officiated at the launch of MTN’s operations in the area last week.
“The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State governor, Tong Akeen Ngor, officially opened the network last Wednesday and as I talk to you, you can confirm it from the people on the ground,” she said.
Aweil Center County Commissioner Peter Natale Okech also confirmed the commencement of MTN’s operations in Awada Payam and lauded the company for extending services to the area.
“The MTN network started its operation and Governor Tong Akeen Ngor paid an official visit and witnessed the successful launch,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a local Awada Payam resident, Valentino Akech Garang, said that they will now be in touch with family and friends and the rest of the world and know what is happening.
“Yes, the network has arrived in the area and the tower was erected,” he said. “The telecommunication network will help us to stay connected because we will be informed on what is happening here and there and get connected with brother, sister or a family.”
