The Medicine Sans Frontier (MSF) operating a hospital in Agok under Abyei region is counting down to close some malaria posts in about ten villages.

The Abyei Today newsletter reports that there are about 24 malaria posts which have been operating in different parts and villages in the area since 2015.

The objective of these posts, according to the Abyei Today, was to deal with cases of malaria in communities, particularly those in remote villages and to prevent further cases. The posts are part of Community Malaria Agent Programme where one person in a village is trained to test, prescribe malaria medicine and refer severe cases to the main hospital.

Community health officer David Mayai attributed the closure of those clinics to reduction in the number of cases of malaria. The posts expected to be affected by the reduction would include Koluoth1, Koluoth2, Maker Aniet, Mading Jokthiang, Mijak Deng Kaya, Minyang malual Aleu, Maker yaiyom, Miyen Jash and Miyom Ngok). Mayai said the reopening of these clinics will depend on a future assessment.
