MP hospitalized after an accident along Magwi-Torit road

A Member of Parliament, Aventore Kenyi Bilal, who represents Pageri constituency in the Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly, and other passengers have been admitted at Torit State Hospital following an accident along Magwi-Torit road yesterday, Sunday.

The lawmaker, who was driving with 9 passengers on board, was returning from prayers held at the Loa Cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, in preparation for the centenary celebrations slated for 15th August next year. 

Loa cathedral is one of the oldest catholic churches and was established 100 years ago prompting community members and the diocese to prepare for its centenary celebrations.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this afternoon, the director of traffic in Eastern Equatoria State, Brigadier General Louis Idenge Onorio, confirmed that the law maker’s Landcruiser vehicle overturned on the Juba-Torit -Magwi junction at Fotur Mafi, some 3 kilometers north of Torit town while coming from Magwi. 

“There was a vehicle that came yesterday from prayers, the car belongs to Aventore Kenyi Bilal, a member of parliament, and he was the driver and there were nine people on board. When they approached Fotur Mafi, a junction between Juba, Magwi, and Torit roads, he was surprised that he had suddenly reached the turn. He tried to turn and the car overturned,” Idemge said.   

“He and six passengers were injured but the three others are fine,” according to Idenge. “He is currently in the hospital. The person most injured is Aventore himself. He has injuries in the right hand, also left hand, the elbow and there are also bruises on his face cut by the glass. The other people have slight injuries, not serious.”

The medical director at Torit State Hospital, Dr. John Isaac, confirmed that the parliamentarian and others involved in the accident received treatment at the facility but said the victims have minor injuries and are stable prompting others to be discharged the same day.
