Abdel-Munaim Ambadi, head of the Darfur Caucus in Sudan’s parliament says the government is working tirelessly to bring an end to the ongoing tribal conflicts in Darfur and Kordofan states.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Ambadi commended the recent visit by the Sudan’s vice president Hasabo Mohamed to Darfur and Kordofan towns in an attempt to end tribal feuds.
The lawmaker pointed out that a peace conference has been convened between Beni Halba and Gamar tribes and that another peace meeting is underway between El Taisha and Salamat tribes.
He added that there is also a peace conference between the Misseriya and Salamat tribes, while efforts are being exerted to end the feud between Misseriya clans.
The Darfuri leader attributed the ongoing conflicts among tribes to proliferation of arms in the hands of locals in the area. He vehemently denied recent allegations that the government was arming some tribes in the area.
Last week, Mohamed Issa Aliu, Chairman of the Shura Council of the Rizeigat tribe in East Darfur described tensions between the Rizeigat and Misseriya Arab tribes as “normal”. He slammed the Khartoum government for arming some tribes in the area.
