Motorcyclist dies after collision in Rubkona County

A 32-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with another motorcycle along the road from Bentiu IDP Camp to Rubkona County in Unity State on Wednesday.

The Director of Highway Traffic in Unity State, Domai Dak Kai, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that the incident happened when the deceased rider was heading to Rubkona Town from the Bentiu IDP Camp before colliding head-on with another motorcyclist who was riding in the opposite direction.

“The deceased was identified as Gatkuoth Kong from Koch County and he died on the spot at 5:15 p.m,” he explained. “The other rider is now receiving treatment at Bentiu Hospital. This (Thursday) morning when traffic police investigators went to question him in the hospital they found that he was still in a critical condition so they will go back next week.”

According to Dak, both motorcycle riders involved in the accident were speeding. He advised motorcyclists to respect traffic rules and ride at between 30 to 4o kilometers per hour to avoid accidents.

For his part, Taker Riek, the chairperson of the Motorcycle Riders Union in Unity State confirmed the accident and said it was unfortunate.

“I went to the scene of the accident where I saw the body of the late Gatkuoth Kong. It is very unfortunate to lose a young man like him and I send my condolences to his family,” he said. “His colleague with whom they collided is still in the hospital in Bentiu Town and when he recovers from his injuries, the police will investigate the cause of the accident.”
