Motorcyclist arrested for knocking woman dead in Rumbek

The rider of a motorcycle taxi, commonlt known as boda-boda, has been arrested after knocking a 34-year-old woman dead while she was crossing the main road in Rumbek Central County in Lakes State on Monday evening.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Lakes State Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac attributed the accident to speeding. He however declined to divulge the name of the rider, saying the relatives of the deceased woman will seek revenge.

“One of the reports we received on Monday was about a 34-year-old woman who was knocked unconscious by a boda-boda. She was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately died,” he said. “The young man who knocked her was arrested and he is now in police custody and investigations will commence soon.”

Maj. Mabor added: “When the investigations are completed, he will be sent to court for trial.”

The police mouthpiece cautioned riders and drivers against speeding and urged them to be mindful of pedestrians.

Rumbek State Hospital Medical Director Doctor Terran Madit confirmed the death of the woman after she was rushed to the facility.
