The police in Lakes State have confirmed that a motorcycle rider and his two women passengers died when they collided with a Landcruiser pickup truck between Door and Butagok payams in Awerial County in Lakes State on Tuesday.
The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Major Elijah Mabor, said the rider and one of the women died on the spot while the second passenger succumbed to her injuries after being taken to the hospital.
“There was a lot of dust on the road and the motorcycle rider was unable to see the other vehicles in front of him and collided with a pickup,” he said. “The rider (boda-boda) and one woman died immediately and the second woman later died in the hospital. This is what happened yesterday in Awerial County between Butagok and Door payams.”
“The report was not very clear and I do not know if the Landcruiser pickup involved in the accident belongs to the government or is private,” Maj. Mabor said.
He said the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene of the accident but reported to the police on Wednesday morning and has been detained.
“I would like to tell road users to drive with caution because smooth roads are more dangerous than rough roads,” Mabor cautioned. “When a road is still under construction, there is a lot of dust,” he cautioned.”
