Internally displaced people (IDPs) in Morobo county of Central Equatoria State say despite receiving some food aid on Monday, there is a dire need for more humanitarian support.
Some state officials and lawmakers delivered some food items to the IDPs.
Grace Modo, an IDP was grateful for the food aid but said it was too little. She added that the other main challenge is the lack of shelter.
“Two people in a house get one small cup of beans, one plate of maize flour per one person, one bottle of cooking oil per two persons,” she explained. “The food given to us is too small for us and we want enough food for at least two months. We also need some carpets because the children are suffering in the cold here.”
Joseph Taban, also an IDP, said the food donation can only sustain them for a week.
“The government gave us some food items but it will not be enough to sustain us for the next one or two weeks and more assistance is still needed here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Morobo County Relief and Rehabilitation Coordinator (RRC) said the IDPs received some bags of rice, flour, and cooking oil, but also acknowledged that more needs to be done to support those displaced.
“We call on humanitarian partners to assist the IDPs and tomorrow (Tuesday) there is going to be verification and needs assessment to be conducted by humanitarian partners,” he added.
According to the RRC, there are over 1,000 IDPs camping in schools and churches across the county following recent displacement caused by elements of SPLA-IO accused of committing atrocities in the area.
