Morobo County Commissioner Toti Jacob says that his county has received four tractors to boost agriculture production in the county. One has remained in Yei, however, for repairs.

He said the tractors will remain and be managed at the county headquarters to help growers move from small-scale farming to large-scale farming.

“We will be targeting the cooperatives and serious farmers,” Toti said.

The commissioner encouraged farmers to make good use of the tractors so that food production is improved in the county and food insecurity is reduced in South Sudan. However, he also said that four tractors is not enough for the county’s five payams.

“Morobo County is one of the green belt areas. If supported in the area of agriculture, we will be able to supply the whole country and the surplus will be taken to other countries,” he said.

The commissioner encouraged investors willing to work in the agriculture sector to come on the ground adding that crops like coffee do well in the county.

But he said that bad roads connecting the bomas in the county are a challenge. Toti said only bomas located near the main road are easily accessible compared to those that are more rural.
