The top humanitarian official in Warrap State revised upward the estimate of the number of people who fled from neighboring Unity State, putting the number now at more than 7000.

Director of Relief and Rehabilitation commission (RRC) in Warrap State Benjamin Binda Wuol told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that there is a daily increase of IDPs coming from Unity State, ranging from 400 to 500 people per day.

He said the total number of IDPs in the whole State is 7260 since the war broke out last month. Only 3431 were registered and verified, but since then nearly 4000 more people arrived, he said.

Wuol pointed out that the people arriving were “war-displaced people and they came with nothing.” The majority of them are women and children.

Her further said there were many international organizations and UN agencies including WFP and Goal providing services to the people like medicines, food aid, water supply, shelter and other needs.

But he also urged well-wishers and volunteers to donate something or come see the situation in order to help the government and NGOs help the war-displaced people in the country.

“The suffering is still continuing,” he said, pointing out that now the refugees are coming not only from Mayom County but now also from Bentiu. Among them were also 500 Equatorians, he mentioned.
