More than 700 people from the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have participated in a peace conference between the Dinka Ngok and Misseriya tribes.

More than 700 people from the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have participated in a peace conference between the Dinka Ngok and Misseriya tribes.

In statement to Radio Tamazuj, Chief Pagot Deng said the conference discussed the possibilities of peaceful coexistence between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya and identified the points of movement of Misseriya herders with their cattle without being attacked.

He said the Dinka Ngok are committed to protect Misseriya herders inside Abyei area. For their part, the Misseriya Ajaira reportedly welcomed the peace conference.

Hamed Hammad Ahmed, a Paramount Chief from Misseriya Ajaira said the conference began yesterday in Nyong area in Abyei with the participation of administrative leaders from both tribes.

He pointed out that this move will end the conflicts between the two sides and strengthen the peaceful coexistence between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya.
