More than 50 South Sudanese refugees were injured in inter-clan clashes at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya’s Turkana County on Sunday, zonal leader said.

More than 50 South Sudanese refugees were injured in inter-clan clashes at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya’s Turkana County on Sunday, zonal leader said.

According to local camp officials, the clashes erupted on Sunday after a reconciliation meeting was postponed between the feuding Anok and Hol sub-clans of the Dinka Paker Clan.

Abraham Machiek, a zonal leader at the camp,  told Radio Tamazuj that 19 of those injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at various health centers in the camp.

"17 people from the Anok clan were wounded, 7 of them are in critical condition, and 28 people from the Hol clan were also seriously injured," he said.

Machiek said the clashes were an extension of an earlier dispute over a love relationship between a boy and girl from the two communities.

He added that the two clan leaders have been arrested by Kenyan authorities after the clashes for investigations.
