More than 30,000 people have been displaced by heavy rains that have caused flooding in the opposition-held territory of Uror County in South Sudan's Bieh State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this week, Uror County Commissioner Nhial Dual said people have been forced to move to higher ground within the county for shelter.
He also said more than 26,000 homes have been destroyed by the floods in all six payams of the county.
“About 35,000 people need humanitarian support, including blankets, mosquito nets, and shelter. We conducted an assessment which indicated that 26,500 houses were washed away by the floods since July to date,” he said.
Dual appealed for humanitarian aid for the affected population, saying they have been exposed to harsh conditions.
He pointed out that the cases of snake bites are on the rise in the area as 30 people have fallen victim.
