More than 2,000 internally displaced people in Tambura State last week received seeds and farm tools to help them rebuild their lives.

Simon Mborisie, a team leader of Star Trust Organization, STO, a local NGO implementing the project, told Radio Tamazuj that they target the most vulnerable of the population especially the internally displaced people in Tambura.

“The organization is working with it the line ministry of agriculture. What we are doing is called emergency livelihood support. We are now distributing sees, farm tools to people affected by the war,” he said.

He said STO has distributed maize, groundnuts and vegetable seeds and farm tools.

“In Tambura Central, Nagero, Mupoi and Source Yubu we have registered 2,500. We do not register individuals but one person per family, per household,” he added.

Several IDPs who are beneficiaries of the aid expressed their gratitude.

John Ukelo, an IDP in Tambura and a beneficiary of the program said despite lacking other essentials including clothes and a place to sleep he is happy with the support. “They have helped me with something very important,” he added.

Another beneficiary Regina Bol said she is happy but called for continued support to ensure they always have food.

“I will plant the seeds so that next year I will get some food. We will not eat all of our harvests; we will eat some and plant the rest so that we have food,” she said.
