More than 1,300 unregistered vehicles have been impounded in Sudan’s North Kordofan State, as part of a crackdown of illegal firearms and unregistered cars, according to officials.

More than 1,300 unregistered vehicles have been impounded in Sudan’s North Kordofan State, as part of a crackdown of illegal firearms and unregistered cars, according to officials.

The Commissioner of Bara West County, Mubarak Abdallah Shumu says they impounded more than 200 unregistered vehicles from different administrative units within the county.

Shumu told the press on Saturday that the ongoing operation is part of the national committee on disarmament and unregistered vehicles.

In Sheikan County, Commissioner Al-shareef Al-Fadil Mohammed said they had impounded more than 1,100 different cars and about 450 motorcycles.

Mohammed said citizens have been cooperative and many of them have voluntarily handed over unregistered vehicles and guns to the committee.
