Authorities in South Sudan’s Fashoda State say more than 12,000 returnees have returned to the state in the past week.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the state’s Peace and Reconciliation Adviser Abdallah Kur, said civilians who had fled the war into neighboring Sudan had arrived through the River Nile.

He noted that since the signing of the September 2018 peace deal between government and rebel forces and the return of stability, they have been receiving returnees on a daily basis.

Kur called on humanitarian aid agencies to come to the area and support the families restart their lives.
