At least 12 people were killed and seven others sustained injuries after opposition forces launched an attack on Natabu area in the western part of Wau town last Friday, according to a source at Wau Military Hospital said.
The source, who preferred not be named, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that they received dead bodies and those injured in the attack. He said, “There were bodies of 2 officers and 10 soldiers. Seven people were wounded.”
He added that the attack was carried out by the opposition forces on a government base in Natabu.
For his part, SPLA deputy spokesperson Santo Domic in Juba confirmed his forces came under attack on Friday morning in Natabu area west of Wau town.
“The opposition came and attacked our defensive position and this was among the civilians. However, our forces were able to repulse them, leaving behind seven of their forces dead, six AK-47 and one PKM,” said Domic.
The army deputy spokesman claimed that only four of the government forces were injured but warned of civilian casualties.
“There are deaths and injuries among the civilians but we are still working with the authorities in Wau to find out the total number of casualties,” said Domich.
Attempts to contact the opposition for a comment on the matter were unsuccessful.
