More cases of cholera have been registered in several areas in AbbasiyaTegeli locality in Sudan’s South Kordofan State since last week.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several health volunteers reported the cholera outbreak and said dozens of people had been infected.
They further said the Abbasiya Hospital was overcrowded with patients, amid acute shortages of medicines. They added that the health facility also lacks medical equipment.
The volunteers called on the government and health organizations to intervene as soon as possible.
For his part, the head of the parliamentary committee for environment in Khartoum, Saleh Juma, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that there were reports of watery diarrhoea in Abbasiya Tegeli.
Juma revealed that he talked to the state minister of health on the issue of watery diarrhoea, saying they received a report that a medical team had been sent to contain the situation in Abbasiya Tegeli locality.
