Unknown thieves stole up to a million of South Sudanese pounds from the Directorate of Nationality and Passports in Juba on Saturday. This is the second major theft from a department of the Interior Ministry within the last month.
A police officer working in the Interior Ministry said that the money stolen included weeks worth of revenue collected by the office. It was locked in one of the rooms within the office.
The directorate has been a major source of income for the Ministry of Interior, collecting fees for nationality cards and passports issued to South Sudanese, and visas issued to foreign nationals.
The exact stolen figure to yet to be determined.
