More than a thousand refugees have fled the Ingessana Hills and arrived in rebel-held parts of Blue Nile state, according to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.
Hashim Orta, the humanitarian affairs officer for the SPLM-N in Blue Nile, announced the arrival of 2000 displaced people coming from the Ingessana Hills toward the areas controlled by the SPLA-N in Blue Nile state.
He said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj that the IDPs had been trapped in the Ingessana Hills by the Sudanese authorities since the outbreak of the civil war last year. According to the official, the number there was approximately five thousand.
He said the IDPs began to move a week ago and were attacked by government militia on the way to Magaja and Mayfol areas, which scattered the people into valleys and creeks. But he said that about two thousand arrived to the SPLA-held the area of Tamtoma and are proceeding to the refugee camps in South Sudan.
