Tens of thousands of displaced people in Lainya County of Central Equatoria State are facing severe humanitarian conditions, a local government official said.

In September, a fact finding mission said that South Sudanese army (SPLA) troops killed civilians, burnt homes, looted shops and local government institutions in Wonduruba County. Thousands fled the violence into nearby Lainya County, and their humanitarian conditions are currently dire, according to Sadig Agustino, an Assistant Coordinator of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Lainya. Women and children have been most effected.

“There still over 10,000 displaced people from Wonduruba County in Lainya. They are facing severe humanitarian condition” Agustino said.

Agustino said that 3,000 families returned to their homes in Wonduruba after the signing of a peace agreement in August.
