A Mobile Court which was established on 31 January 2024 on Friday sentenced three men to various jail terms in Unity State’s Koch County.

One of the convicts, a 19-year-old man from Koch Town in Koch County was sentenced to 13 years in jail for the aggravated defilement of a 12-year-old girl in October last year. The girl succumbed to her injuries last year after being referred to Juba Teaching Hospital.

Two other men who attacked a police station in Koch County were sentenced to six and seven-year jail terms respectively.

Giel Waar, the Justice Advisor in Unity State, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the sentences were based on the evidence presented before the Mobile Court.

“The guilty party was identified and his 13-year prison sentence serves as an example to the rest of people who are committed to raping young girls,” he said. “The two other men were sentenced to jail six and seven years each after they attacked a police station last year.”

“The girl who was defiled was taken to Juba Teaching Hospital for medical treatment last year due to injuries she sustained when she was sexually abused but died last October,” Waar added.

Three defilement cases were reported in Koch County last year. Last week one of the men involved was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
