A South Sudanese refugee woman, who went missing two weeks ago from Bidibidi refugee settlement in Uganda, has been found dead, Ugandan police said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj this morning, Moses Olang, the Yumbe District Police Commander identified the deceased as Mary Naka.
"Nobody knew where she was and nobody reported to us that she was missing. The body of Naka which was decomposing was found in the bush on 27 December,” Olang said.
According to the district police commander, preliminary investigations indicate that the South Sudanese woman was murdered by unknown persons.
The Ugandan police officer said no arrests have been made so far.” No arrest was made at that time because there was no clue completely of who to be arrested,” he explained.
“What is helping us to target some particular persons now is the phone she was using. The phone she was using is working and someone is using it, so we are tracing that person who is using the phone,” he disclosed.
According the UN refugee agency, nearly two million people are displaced inside South Sudan while outside the country there are over two million South Sudanese refugees, mainly in Ethiopia, Sudan, and Uganda.
The majority of the refugees are women and children.
