About three Ngok Dinka women were abducted by members of the Arab Misseriya tribe before being released on Wednesday evening in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.
Bulabek Deng Kuol, paramount chief of the Ngok Dinka, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred when the women went to collect firewood on Wednesday afternoon.
He further said the women were taken by the Misseriya tribesmen to an area called Maker, some kilometres away from Abyei, and made to show the Misseriya where they could find cattle belonging to the Ngok Dinka.
Bulabek said that the abductors took 28 head of cattle and then released the three women.
However, he confirmed the United Nations peacekeepers are still pursuing the Misseriya raiders. The tribal leader revealed that the abducted women returned back in peace after being released in Maker village.
Abyei area is witnessing insecurity since March when three Dinka Ngok were killed in the attack on Marialachak while three were wounded, several children were abducted and 24 houses burned. An Abyei official told Radio Tamazuj that about 30 houses were burned and 17 goats were raided.
