Misseriya tribe reports water shortage in northern Abyei

Misseriya herders in northern Abyei area, which is contested between Sudan and South Sudan, are complaining about a water shortage for people and cattle.

They blamed the United Nations Interim Security for Abyei (UNISFA) for stopping them from accessing water sources in some areas within Abyei area.

Hamad El Dudo, an emir of the Misseriya tribe, told Radio Tamazuj that the water shortage happens every year starting from March until June.

The tribal leader pointed out that the Misseriya herders used to reach areas deep inside Abyei area, but the UNISFA has recently prevented them to access water sources in fear of possible clashes between with Ngok Dinka tribe.
