The Misseriya Arab tribe has called for the implementation of Abyei Security and Administrative Arrangements Agreement signed in June 2011, and the special protocol for the contested region.
In his remarks to the press in Khartoum yesterday, the Misseriya tribal leader Mohamed Omer Ansari said his tribe requests full implementation of the Abyei protocol this year.
“If not this year, undoubtedly we will reject it and then it goes to the dustbin of history – we do not care about it,” he was quoted as saying.
He said the Misseriya tribe is fed up with intransigence by Ngok Dinka in the implementation of the agreements signed between the two parties.
The leader emphasized peaceful coexistence between the Misseriya and Ngok Dinka, so as to share things in common between the two tribes.
Al Ansari also requested the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abyei to allow them access to the area. Herders from the tribe graze their herds seasonally in Abyei.
