At least five people from the Misseriya Arab tribe have been killed and three others injured in fresh clashes yesterday with the Rizeigat nomadic tribe at El Jaraf area, south west of El Mieram town in West Kordofan state, a local source said.

Hussein Bakar, a Misseriya tribal leader, told Radio Tamazuj that elements from the Rizeigat tribe attacked them near El Jaraf area.

He confirmed that the attack resulted in the killing of five Misseriya tribesmen and wounding of three others. Hussein blamed the clashes between the two tribes on the West Kordofan and East Darfur authorities.

“Provision of security is a responsibility of the government not citizens, until now there is no radical solution to tribal feuds in the area,” he said.

For his part, the Meiram locality commissioner Abu El Gasim El Harika confirmed the incident and casualties as a result of the fighting.

However, he declined to comment on the matter, saying it is a responsibity of the state minister of information.
