Sudan’s Misseriya tribe has paid 99 cows as blood compensation for a South Sudanese child killed by one of its members in Ruweng Administrate Area last month.

Abakar Babu Jedu, a Misseryia community leader in the area, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that 99 out of the 101 cows agreed upon were handed over to the victim's family.

He further complained of harassment of Misseriya herders in Ruweng, appealing to local authorities to consider their complaints and recover all the cows stolen by the local population.

"We are suffering from cattle rustling, and when the thief is caught, the cows are not recovered which causes concern to us," he said.

Francis Mayor, a member of the victim's family, confirmed they had received 99 cows from the Misseryia nomads as blood compensation.

For his part, Miakol Makuac, the director of information in Ruweng area, confirmed that the blood money was paid and received by the victim's family.

He said all procedures were carried out in the presence of government officials.

Makuac pointed out that the move would restore historical relations between the Misseriya and residents of Ruweng.
