Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have agreed to establish a common market in Amiet area.

Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan have agreed to establish a common market in Amiet area.

Nimeiri Bakhtan, a member of peace committee from Misseriya side, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they agreed to establish a shared market in order to sustain peace between the two tribes in Abyei area.

Bakhtan commanded the British-based organization Concordis which is trying to bring reconciliation between the two peoples. “We want this good spirit, we don’t want to say Dinka Ngok or Misseriya, but Amiet market,” said Bakhtan.

For his part, Nyol Pagot Deng, Acting Paramount Chief of the Ngok Dinka tribe, confirmed that the two sides agreed to open a common market, saying it is the only way to achieve peace between the two tribes.

“We, the Ngok Dink and the Misseriya have decided to initiate this peace so that we move forward, because the way forward is peace,” said Pagot.
