Misseriya, Ngok Dinka discuss new peace meeting in Abyei

Misseriya and Ngok Dinka tribal leaders have agreed to hold a new peace meeting in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.

Ambadi Kabashi, a Misseriya tribal leader, told Radio Tamazuj that the agreement came as a result of continuous dialogue between native administration leaders of the two tribes.

Kabashi said the Misseriya suggested the meeting will be held in Diffra area in the north of Abyei. He stressed the importance of peace between the two tribes, saying peace can bring an end to insecurity in the contested area.

“The dialogue has now reached an advance stage between Emir Mukhtar, Nyol Fagot, and Bulabek and others," he said, referring to various tribal leaders from both sides. "They have agreed to meet in Diffra, the time is not yet set until now, but the two sides have already agreement on it."

For his part, Sultan Nyol Fagot Deng who spoke on behalf of the Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief Bulabek Deng Kuol, confirmed communication and endeavours for peace between them and the Misseriya.

The Ngok Dinka traditional leader said that they proposed that the issue of venue and date of the peace meeting should be referred to Concordis organization, which facilitates the upcoming native administration leader’s meeting.

Fagot added that they also proposed that the meeting shouldn’t be limited to the Ajaira Misseriya and Ngok Dinka tribes only. The sultan pointed out that they demanded involvement of chiefs from South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal, Warrap States, and Unity States because the Misseriya herders usually cross into those areas as well.
