A number of Misseriya Arab tribe leaders are working to secure the return of several children abducted from the Ngok Dinka community of Abyei in the disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan, according to a local source.

Emir Hamad Al Dodo, a Misseriya tribal leader, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that there are efforts by native administration leadres to return the abducted children back to Abyei after their abduction by raidres from Marial Achak area in early March.

There have been conflicting reports about the number of children abducted, with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) initially reporting eight children were abducted while some local Dinka sources put the figure somewhat lower.

According to the United Nations, three Ngok Dinka people were killed in the attack on Marial Achak village while three raiders were killed and four captured when UNISFA peacekeepers fought to repulse the attack.
