Misseriya herders arrive in Abyei for annual grazing

Misseriya cattle are moving from Sudan's West Kordofan state into the contested territory of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan for grazing, accoding to a Ngok Dinka chief.

Deputy Ngok Dinka Paramount Chief Nyol Fagot Deng told Radio Tamazuj that Misseriya herders had arrived with their cattle in Kiir River and outskirts of Abyei, about 5 kilometres from Abyei town.

The migration is seasonal and has been planned together with the peacekeeping mission in the area UNISFA and traditional leaders.

The traditional leader reiterated Ngok Dinka’s commitment for peaceful coexistence between the two tribes. He pointed out that they welcome the arrival of the Misseriya herders in Abyei.
