A peace conference scheduled to take place between the Ngok Dinka and the Misseriya in the disputed Abyei area has been postponed.
Yuel Fagud, the acting paramount chief of Ngok Dinka, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that they were waiting for official approval from Sudan’s government to carry out the conference.
“That’s why conference wasn’t held. Chiefs are just waiting for the approval,” Yuel said.
The conference is supposed to take place in Diffra in the north of the Abyei area. It had been postponed following the arrest of members of the Misseriya peace committee by Sudanese authorities.
The arrested Misseriya were released last week.
