Suspected Misseriya gunmen attacked a village in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan on Monday afternoon killing six people.

Dinka Ngok Chief Bulabek Deng Kuol told Radio Tamazuj that Kuoldet village was attacked by Sudanese militia yesterday leaving three people dead and three others found killed after being reported missing. He added that one person was wounded in the attack.

Bulabek alleged that three people from the Misseriya tribe were also killed during clashes. The tribal leader dismissed claims that any UNISFA soldiers were involved in any of the fatal shootings.

“There was not any clash with the UNISFA forces, the six people were killed by the Arab militia around 2:00 pm” he said.

Meanwhile, a Misseriya tribal leader Ambadi Kabashi said he was informed about what had happened in Abyei area by one of the monitors from Sudan’s side.

“The monitor told me that the incident resulted in the killing of three people from Dinka Ngok and one person from Misseriya called Mahmud Ali,” he said.

He pointed out that his tribe condemns the attack whether it was carried out by the Misseriya tribe or any other side.

The Misseriya leader paid condolences to families of the victims. However, Ambadi admitted that the incident could affect the peaceful coexistence between the two tribes in the area.
