Misseriya militia allegedly attacked Bier village south of Kiir River in the contested area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan on Wednesday.

Alor Dou Al Beit, information official in Abyei, told Radio Tamazuj that clashes erupted at Bier village on Wednesday. He added that the clashes started from morning until afternoon.

The official accused Arab Misseriya and South Sudan rebels of attacking the area. No casualties were reported, according to Alor.

Alor, who is also the spokesman of the Abyei administration, said UN peacekeepers based in the area were prepared. But he didn’t give further details whether they intervened in the clashes or not.

For his part, Hamad Al Dodu, emir of the Misseriya tribe told Radio Tamazuj that the situation in Abyei area is not reassuring. He attributed the problem to a decision taken by Ngok Dinka tribe to boycott a traditional leaders’ meetings in Addis Ababa.

The tribal leader accused the Ngok Dinka of refusing to establish a joint administration in the contested territory.
