Minister says South Sudan civil service salaries to be reviewed

South Sudan’s Minister of Labor and Public Service has said that civil service salaries will be reviewed in order to improve living standards.

South Sudan’s Minister of Labor and Public Service has said that civil service salaries will be reviewed in order to improve living standards.

Ngor Kulang, who was addressing the opening of a workshop on good governance in Juba, said he will meet with the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service Commission to discuss the issue, Eye Radio reported.

“I know there is a problem. Since 2005, nobody revised the salaries,” Kulang stated.

He also acknowledged that some workers’ salaries have not been paid for many months now. “I know the salaries paid by the government to the civil servants are not enough. All of us are aware about this,” he added.

“I think we are looking forward to form some committees in order to find out the best practice to overcome this situation.”

Kulang also urged officials not to leak confidential government information to the public or to the press.

“You will find some very important documents in the streets, I think you must take care. You are the custodians of that document,” he said.
