A man died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle belonging to Wau State minister for public service in Wau town on Sunday, police authorities said.
The deceased was identified as Arkangelo Victor.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the traffic police officer in charge of criminal investigations in the state, Captain John Riing Akot said the accident was caused by the minister’s son to whom the car was handed over.
“The accident happened when the driver dropped the minister to church and while on the road to Daraja area, he met the son of the minister who asked him to give him the car. While on the road, the 15-year-old boy, who did not know how to drive, lost control and knocked a 35-year-old man walking on the roadside,” Akot explained.
The officer blamed the minister’s driver for giving the car to the boy, saying he had acted contrary to the traffic laws of the state.
“We have opened a case and an investigation has to take place and there will be follow-ups up by the family of the deceased. They may take the issue to court or resolve the problem,” he stressed.
Marko Cosmas, a relative of late Arkangelo, said his relative was on his way to visit a brother’s wife when he met his death.
