Local sources from Malakal town in South Sudan’s Upper Nile indicated that two SPLA soldiers were shot dead and another wounded and then taken to hospital inside UNMISS base yesterday evening.
Clashes within the SPLA ranks in Malakal town were reportedly instigated by some drunken soldiers, according to the same sources.
For his part, the State Information Minister Philip Jiben denied the incident and said nothing happened at all in Malakal.
“I was even in the UNMISS camp until about 2:00 yesterday and nothing as such happened. Afterward, I went to the airport I did not hear any gunshot,” he explained.
“I have been wandering around in the town, such a thing does not happen,” he told Radio Tamazuj.
