There is mounting tension between supporters of former Greater Pibor Area Adminstration chief administrator David Yau Yau and SPLA generals supporting the appointed governor Baba Medan of the proposed Boma state, a local leader said.
The leader who preferred anonymity told Radio Tamazuj that ex-Likuangule commissioner Gen. Simon Ali and SPLA General Korok Nhial are in control of the headquarters of the “defunct” Greater Pibor Administrative Area, and have ordered officials appointed by David Yau Yau to leave.
The local leader said that the citizens reject Baba Medan as the appointed leader, and that the majority of citizens fled into the bush in fear that fighting could erupt between Korok’s forces and forces commanded by Adua Jagum who supports former SSDM-Cobra Faction of David Yau Yau.
Abraham Mamayo, a traditional leader in Pibor area, confirmed that the citizens reject the newly appointed governor Baba Medan. The chief pointed out that a delegation was dispatched to the capital Juba in order to discuss the problem with the country’s top leadership.
SSDF Cobra Faction had been ruling the area under the terms of a 2013 peace deal that gave David Yau Yau leadership of the region.
