Military officer killed in fatal Nyirol County love triangle

A military officer, reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with a married woman with a six-month-old baby, was killed by the woman’s husband, resulting in the death of another person associated with the deceased officer.

A military officer, reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with a married woman with a six-month-old baby, was killed by the woman’s husband, resulting in the death of another person associated with the deceased officer.

The tragic event unfolded on Thursday in Lankien town, involving members of Cie-Thiang of Thol payam and Cie-Thai of Pultuturuk payam in Jonglei State’s Nyirol County.

The deceased officer had brought the married woman into his residence, a tent located within the army barracks. Regrettably, the tent, intended to be a place of love, became the site of the officer’s demise.

According to Nyirol County Commissioner James Bol Makuey, the clashes stemmed from the husband’s reaction to the alleged affair between the officer and his wife.

Bol explained, “The incident was triggered by the killing of a man suspected to have had a love affair with a woman who had a six-month-old baby. The husband of the woman killed this man on Wednesday night, leading the other party to seek revenge the following morning on Thursday.” Bol clarified that the incident occurred inside a tent within the army barracks, not within the premises of a humanitarian organization.

“The assailant, harbouring suspicions of his wife’s involvement in a romantic relationship, trailed her to the tent of her lover within the army barracks. In the ensuing confrontation, the woman’s lover was killed, and another person also lost their life,” disclosed Bol.

The county commissioner emphasized that the conflict had ceased since Thursday, and efforts were underway to engage the opposing factions in finding a peaceful resolution. “We have sought the involvement of intellectuals and chiefs from both sides, and currently, the situation is calm. There are no further issues,” he added.

In another incident, a separate person has reportedly been killed in the Lankien boma within Thol payam. Commissioner Bol clarified that this incident is unrelated to the killing of an army officer and another individual over adultery. He dispelled unconfirmed reports suggesting that five people, including from the assailant’s side, had been killed.

“In total, three people have been killed in the area. Two individuals lost their lives during the incident involving the woman with a six-month-old baby, her husband, and her lover. The third person was killed in a separate incident,” Commissioner Bol emphasized.
