Military Intelligence blocks aid delivery to East Darfur

Military Intelligence Services of the 6th Infantry Division in North Darfur State have blocked delivery of aid to displaced people in El Daein town of East Darfur State.

Military Intelligence Services of the 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher, North Darfur State, have blocked delivery of aid to displaced people in El Daein town of East Darfur, a local official has said.

Jumaa Haraz, the Executive Director of Al-Firdous Locality in East Darfur, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that an agent contracted by the locality had been stopped from ferrying 20,000 bags of flour and 20 bags of rice from El-Fasher to Al-Firdous.

“We were surprised that the security and intelligence services refused the agent to transfer relief materials without explaining the reasons,” he said.

He regretted the move saying the displaced persons were in dire need of the relief foods because they had nothing to eat and were living in very poor humanitarian conditions.

Haraz called on donor organizations whose consignments were blocked from delivery to change the window for relief access from El Fasher to another area where agencies do not object to transporting relief.

He also appealed to Regional Governor Minni Arko Minawi to urgently intervene in the issue to save the lives of the affected populations through relief food delivery.

Military officials in North Darfur State could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sudanese Army Intelligence refuses to transfer goods and relief materials to the states of South Darfur, East Darfur, Central Darfur and West Darfur, considering that they are under the control of the Rapid Support Forces.

Sudan has been witnessing deadly clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF since April 15, 2023. More than 12,000 people had been killed in the fighting, according to a statement by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in December last year.
